Brainstorming is one of the most creative ways to come up with a solution for a problem you are facing. There are many different brainstorming techniques you can use, but which one fits your situation best? In this blog I will tell you about the different kinds of brainstorming techniques!

Which brainstorm techniques are there?

There are countless brainstorm techniques, but we have made a selection of 23 of them. These techniques can differ from each other in many ways. For example, rapid ideation is specifically aimed at quick thinking, while the eidetic image method requires you to use your imagination and build the ideal product in your head. There are also techniques where you have to imagine certain situations and there are techniques where you really put yourself in that situation. In short, there are a lot of different techniques you can try out!

Brainstorming techniques online

Of course, there are also a number of brainstorming techniques that you can do not only physically, but also online. One of these techniques is online brainstorming. Other techniques that you are not necessarily conceived to do online, but can be done online are for example brainwriting, teleport storming and edge storming. But as long as you don’t necessarily have to be in the same room during the brainstorming session, there is a way to think about how it can be done online.

Creative brainstorming techniques

Even though all brainstorming techniques capitalize on your creativity, some methods are more creative than others. One of the most creative methods is the eidetic image method. The idea is that everyone in the group closes their eyes while the organizer of the brainstorm asks them questions. They do not answer these, but they add the answer to the image they have in their mind.

An example of this is developing a telephone. When the team sits together, they all picture the phone that was developed last. Then they are asked what their favorite color is, but instead of answering out loud, everyone has a different color phone in their head. For example, for some it will be blue, but others probably have a green, red, purple or yellow phone in mind. By asking several of these questions, at the end everyone has a different phone with different functions in mind. They then describe these on paper before discussing them with each other.

There are lots of different ways to brainstorm; this blog only includes a small portion. Want more brainstorming techniques? You can find countless forms online!
