In this blog you can learn all about creating a mission and vision for your own business! On the basis of 4 steps, I’ll explain how you can do this!

How can you draw up a mission and vision?

What are a mission and vision actually? A mission of a company indicates what a company wants to pursue in the current situation. When starting a business, it is important to know what your business stands for; aka the why from The Golden Circle by Simon Sinek. The vision represents more of what the company wants to work towards in the future. These are goals that are for the future and can move with social problems. So in short, the vision is what the life goal of your business is and the mission describes how you will achieve that goal. Now that you know this you can start with step 1.

Step 1: what is important to you?

What is really important to you and what are your values? Creating a mission and vision starts with mapping what you find important. What are your core values that you and your company must pursue. What do you personally find very important and attach much value to? You can also think the other way around, what do you hate about yourself or others? By having this in focus for yourself, you can more easily draw up your mission and vision.

Step 2: draw up a mission

Now that you have a clear idea of what you find important and/or unpleasant, you can incorporate this into your mission. Your mission shows who you are as a company and what you stand for. Remember that this is about the current situation of your company. Make it as original, honest and clear as possible. Below are a few questions that can help you draw up your mission statement.

  • What is the world missing right now or what would the world be missing if it weren’t for your company?
  • What are you solving or who are you helping?
  • What motivates you?

Step 3: Create a vision

Now that your current situation is clearly defined in your mission statement, you can start drafting your vision. In your vision is in one or more sentences briefly and clearly described where your company wants to work. Again, keep this close to your company. What is the big dream you want to work towards with your company? Where do you want to be in a few years? The more clearly defined, the better.

If all goes well, you now have your mission and vision clear. This lays the foundation for your business and everything you work towards. Now that you have your mission and vision clear you can move on to the next step: goals.
