How to make a TikTok
TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms and so you can easily reach your target audience on it. But how do you create a TikTok?
TikTok: one of the fastest growing platforms with a whopping 1.7 million users. A perfect (and free) way to reach the younger audience! Almost 30 percent of social media users between the ages of 15 and 19 can be found daily on TikTok for sharing and finding the short videos. Sharing short videos can of course be fun for yourself, but it’s also becoming more interesting for companies as more and more 20-somethings start using the platform. But how do you make a TikTok? We explain step by step how to do this!
Choose a trending song or fun song
TikTok is all about the music. There are several ways to find the right song for your TikTok. One of these ways is if you come across a nice song while scrolling that you would like to use yourself. In that case, you should do the following:
- Click on the music track at the bottom left
- Click on ‘use this sound
You can also press the plus sign at the bottom of your screen. Then click on “add sound”. This button can be found at the top of your screen. Here you get a menu with different categories of music tracks. Among other things, you can look here at the category “TikTok Viral”. Here you will see the top tracks that are currently going viral. But of course you can choose any song you like.
Once you have found the right song for your TikTok, you can choose the starting point of the music yourself. This is done in a fairly simple way: use the music/scissors tool to adjust the starting point. Drag the track slightly to the left or right until you find the right starting point.
Determining the right settings
You can set several things before recording to make the TikTok just the way you want it. For example, do you want to film (partly) in slow motion or accelerated? Then click on the “speed” button and make a choice between the five options. These are 0.3x, 0.5x, 2x, 3x or just the standard speed of 1x.
And just as with any movie or photo you can take with your regular phone camera, you can choose to switch the camera to the front or back of your phone. You can do this by clicking on ‘flip’ at the top right of your screen.
In addition, you also have plenty of fun effects on TikTok that you can add to your video. You often see that there is a certain trend in this, so keep an eye on your ‘For You’-page for all the effects you can use. One of the simple ways to make your TikTok more fun!
Let the show begin!
Once you have found the right settings for your TikTok it is time to start recording. This is done by simply clicking on the red button at the bottom of your screen. Make sure you select 15 seconds or 60 seconds. This option is under the red button. It is a shame if you are fully occupied with showing your dance skills, only to find out that the recording was stopped too early.
You can also film hands-free, which is very handy when you have to dance! Not that you have to dance in all TikToks. But to film hands-free you click on the ‘timer’ button and you can choose 3 seconds or 10 seconds. After that the recording starts automatically.
Finishing touch and share!
When you are finished recording you can make some final adjustments. You can change the starting point of the music if it is not quite right. This is done in the same way as in the beginning: click on the scissor tool and drag it around. You can also apply a filter. You do this by clicking on the three circles. And if you still regret not applying the trending effect, you can do so by clicking on effects at the bottom of your screen.
Also, if you are not completely satisfied with the end or beginning of your recording, you can adjust it by clicking on “adjust clips”. You can also choose to throw a voice effect over the video; this adds extra humor. You can even create a whole voice-over.
Finally, you can add your own text or stickers to your TikTok. This way you can make it even clearer what the video is about! These buttons can be found at the bottom of your screen.
When you are completely satisfied with your killer TikTok, click ‘next’. Then you get to the last screen and you can add another description and hashtags. Don’t forget the hashtags! This is how users can find you, in case you don’t make it to the ‘For You’-page of these users. So take a good look in advance to see which hashtags are trending.
